About the Aqua Golem

How exactly does the AQUA GOLEM
system work?

How the system works

AQUA GOLEM functions as a central heat recovery system, extracting thermal energy from wastewater.

Designed for maximum efficiency, the system collects heat from grey water to preheat clean water, lowering energy costs and promoting sustainability.

In practice, this means it utilises heat from wastewater from your sinks, showers, washing machines, and other appliances. The heat from grey water is transferred to clean water through a stainless steel counterflow heat exchanger, without any direct contact between the two.

An elegant yet clever solution

AQUA GOLEM is a system made up of a double-walled storage tank, a temperature gradient disturbance eliminator, and a stainless steel counterflow heat exchanger. The harnessed energy is used to heat clean water for various consumption systems in the building.

This product eliminates issues related to the disruption of the thermal stratification of wastewater in the storage tank of the recovery system, using the temperature gradient disturbance eliminator to prevent unwanted cooling of the upper, hottest layers of the stratified warm wastewater in the tank. This is caused by the chimney effect that naturally occurs in the connected wastewater pipes.

This results in high efficiency of up to 88-95% in heat recovery, representing significant savings for both households and commercial buildings.

Installation

To function properly, the AQUA GOLEM system requires a separate wastewater branch for grey water. This setup ensures that only grey wastewater is processed by the system including wastewater from sinks, showers, bathtubs, washing machines, and similar appliances that are free from faecal contamination.

Wastewater separation

When designing or upgrading an existing wastewater system, two distinct branches should be implemented: one for grey water and another for black water. (wastewater containing faecal contamination).

AQUA GOLEM Installation

The system is installed so that it is connected to the separate grey water branch. Grey water is directed into the system, where the thermal energy from this water is recovered and used to heat clean water.

Connection to clean water

The heated clean water from AQUA GOLEM is then distributed into the building’s hot water systems where it can then be redistributed into various other water system uses such as showers.

Benefits of a separate wastewater branch for grey water

Efficiency – Enables optimal utilisation of the thermal energy contained in grey water, leading to significant energy savings.

Flexibility – Facilitates effective handling and reuse of wastewater, supporting sustainable water resource practices therefore protecting the environment.

Proper planning and execution of the wastewater system tailored to the specific needs of the building and its users are pivotal for the successful installation and operation of AQUA GOLEM. It is strongly advised to consult experts in plumbing and heating systems in the early stages of planning.

Where to Place AQUA GOLEM?

In the ground next to the foundation slab – The outdoor tank is self-supporting, eliminating the need for a concrete base, even underneath the tank. This feature significantly reduces both costs and installation time.

In the Building’s Basement – In the case of indoor installations, the unit is placed directly in the building’s basement, offering an ideal solution when outdoor excavation is not a viable option. Placing the system in the basement also facilitates easy access for maintenance and inspections.

Maintenance requirements for AQUA GOLEM

Minimal Maintenance Design
AQUA GOLEM is engineered to require minimal upkeep. Regular inspections and cleaning of the heat exchanger and water eliminator are recommended, following the maintenance manual.

Avoiding Contaminants
Ensuring that no foreign or toxic substances are introduced into the greywater system is vital. Prohibited materials include oils, high-concentration chlorine products, solid objects, and food scraps larger than 2 mm.

Ongoing Maintenance
Periodic upkeep, such as the application of 500–600 g of sodium hydroxide into the inspection port every four months, is essential for keeping the system clean and efficient.

General Maintenance
A full maintenance check should be conducted every 2–4 years, depending on usage and load. This involves:

• Pumping out the entire contents of the storage tank with a sludge pump.

• Cleaning the heat exchanger and the internal walls of the storage tank with high-pressure water (WAP).

The initial general maintenance is covered by the product price and may be scheduled no earlier than one year after installation.

Long-Term Efficiency
This servicing ensures that AQUA GOLEM operates effectively and reliably over an extended period, maximising its functionality.
